What does the medical report decide?
It records the injury and often the period of incapacity, which influences how the offence is classified. We read what it actually says, how the injury was caused and whether it fits the account.
What defences are available?
Self-defence, denial of identity, absence of intent, and inconsistency between the report and the complaint. CCTV and witnesses are examined closely.
Can the case be resolved?
In some assault cases the injured person's position can influence the outcome. Whether that applies depends on the charge and stage. We explore it where appropriate. See aggravated assault.
